Studio Uno Abruzzo

Abruzzo is wine country, mountain country, and, thanks to Studio Uno Abruzzo, a decent place to hear Blue Note-era hard bop. The station runs jazz, pop, and rock side by side and doesn't treat that as a compromise. One track you get a polished Italian pop hook, the next something with a guitar solo that goes on too long. Good. The jazz end leans toward Wayne Shorter, Paolo Fresu, and the occasional Kamasi Washington cut. Paolo Conte fits the mood too, that raspy, half-spoken thing he does, somewhere between chanson and swing. Most jazz radio in Italy picks a lane and stays in it. This one does…
