Radio Himshikhar

Nepal's airwaves run on a different clock than most of the world's. Radio Himshikhar sits somewhere in that rhythm: devotional songs at dawn, Hindi and Nepali film tracks through the afternoon, and a lot of talk in between. The folk programming is the real draw. Madal drums, sarangi lines, lok geet sung by voices that sound like they've been carrying across hills for decades.
